<p>MANILA — The number of dengue cases in Quezon City has increased by 150% this year.</p><p>Quezon City logged a total of 7,084 dengue cases from January to Aug. 22, which is 151% higher compared to last year’s record, Dr. Rolly Cruz, chief epidemiologist of the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division, told DZMM Teleradyo.</p><p>The dengue-caused deaths also increased with 23 fatalities within the same time period.</p><p>He said the recent heavy rains brought by the tropical cyclones and the southwest monsoon led to an increase in breeding sites of the dengue-carrying Aedes aegypti mosquito.</p><div><a class="fr-green" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/health-science/2025/3/11/doh-dengue-can-affect-public-anytime-not-just-rainy-season-1656"><strong>DOH: Dengue can affect public anytime, not just rainy season</strong></a></div><p>The city recorded 471 dengue cases over the past two weeks.</p><p>Most cases were school-aged children, with an average age of 11 years old.</p><div><a class="fr-green" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/health-science/2025/6/17/schools-communities-on-alert-for-dengue-even-as-cases-decline-1838"><strong>Schools, communities on alert for dengue even as cases decline</strong></a></div><p>Among the barangays with the highest number of cases were Batasan Hills, Payatas, Commonwealth and Holy Spirit, followed by Pasong Tamo, Bagong Silangan and Tatalon.</p><p>“Alam natin pagka hindi natin nalinis yung bahay natin, pag umulan, maiipunan ng tubig at mabilis mag-multiply yung mga lamok natin na unfortunately nagdadala ng dengue virus,” said Cruz.</p><p>(We know that if we do not clean our homes, water could accumulate and that will help mosquitos breed faster. Unfortunately, they are carriers of the dengue virus)</p><p>Cruz assured that the city health centers are prepared for the influx of cases since this is anticipated.</p><p>Cruz reminded the public to immediately bring family members, whether children or adults, to the nearest health center if they are having flu symptoms for two to three days.</p><p>The fever fast lanes remain in effect at all health centers, where patients will be tested for dengue and leptospirosis.</p><p>Meanwhile, Cruz said the cases of leptospirosis in Quezon City have been decreasing over the last week.</p><p>He reminded citizens who were exposed to floods to take prophylaxis to prevent leptospirosis.</p><div><a class="fr-green" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/health-science/2025/8/21/kalinisan-pwedeng-panlaban-sa-dengue-1800"><strong>Kalinisan pwedeng panlaban sa dengue</strong></a></div><div><br/></div><div><strong>MOST AFFECTED BARANGAYS</strong> </div><p>According to QCESU, the barangays with the highest number of dengue cases include Batasan Hills, followed by Payatas, Commonwealth, Holy Spirit, Pasong Tamo, Bagong Silangan, and Tatalon. </p><p>These areas, Cruz said, have dense populations and more informal settlements, making them more vulnerable to dengue transmission. </p><p>Cruz urged residents to remain vigilant, especially during the rainy season, when stagnant water often becomes mosquito breeding grounds. </p><p>“Kailangan po talaga malinis ang ating kapaligiran sa bahay. So, naguulan po ngayon, linisin niyo po iyong bahay natin sa labas. Iyong mga naiipunan ng tubig, itaob niyo po sila, linisin niyo po sila para hindi siya pangitlogan ng lamok,” he reminded. </p><p>Parents, in particular, should not delay seeking medical attention for their children.
