MANILA — The Comelec Second Division granted the petition to disqualify former Caloocan City congressman Edgar "Egay" Erice from running in the upcoming 2025 National and Local Elections.

In a 13-page resolution promulgated by the 2nd Division on November 26, the Comelec said, Erice's acts of propagating false information across multi-platforms demonstrates his deliberate intent to disrupt elections.

The petition against Erice was filed by a certain Raymond Salipot after Erice filed his Certificate of Candidacy on October 7, 2024.

In his petition, Salipot said Erice uses alarmist language to incite public fear, stating in public unverified allegations of bribery and corruptions against Comelec which according to the petitioner was unfounded.

The Commission granted Salipot's petition and disqualified the respondent as a candidate for 2nd District of Caloocan City.

The resolution was signed by 2nd Division Presiding Commissioner Marlon Casquejo and Commissioners Rey Bulay and Nelson Celis.
