MANILA – The 10-wheeler truck involved in a road crash along Skyway At-Grade Southbound in Barangay Sun Valley in Parañaque City last week did not undergo inspection at the Land Transportation Office (LTO), an investigation revealed on Wednesday. A person died and five others were injured due to the multi-vehicle collision.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2024/12/7/1-dead-5-injured-in-multi-vehicle-collision-in-para-aque-1417">1 dead, 5 injured in multi-vehicle collision in Parañaque</a> </div>In today’s hearing, the truck owner admitted paying someone to process the vehicle’s registration in 2023. Aside from this, the investigation showed that the engine, chassis, and other parts of the truck were upgraded so this would look brand new. “Lumalabas po sa investigation natin na ito po ay non-appearance... Bumalik po sa kanya after n&#x27;ya magbayad ng 30,000 [pesos] sa isang tao na rehistrado na po ito na truck na ito,” said Renante Militante, officer in charge of LTO’s intelligence and investigation division. “‘Yun po ay mahigpit na ipinagbabawal… kasi dapat anumang sasakyan ay dapat physical nai-inspect bago marehistro,” Militante added. “Maliwanag po ating pag-conduct ng invest, lumalabas po itong truck ay upgraded, naupgrade po ito from 2000 model na napunta na sa 2023 model,” he said. Based on LTO records, the driver had several violations even before the road crash happened. The agency said it would investigate the truck to determine if the accident was because of a mechanical or human failure. The truck driver’s wife also appeared during the hearing to submit a written explanation. She has an appeal to the agency. “Ang akin po, gusto ko lang po sabihin na sana wag tanggalin lisensya ng asawa ko kasi doon lang kami umaasa sa kanya,” Marites Patu said. The 54-year-old driver of the 10-wheeler truck earlier said he checked the brakes before the trip, but could do nothing when they suddenly malfunctioned. The driver, who is still under police custody, is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and multiple physical injury, with damage to property.
