Congress recently approved a P1.1 trillion budget for the DPWH,
increasing it by more than P288 billion from the P825 billion proposed in the the General Appropriations Bill.

The President noted that the funding for some big-ticket infrastructure projects were lodged under the unprogrammed appropriations which he said causes delay.

"Now I asked the House 'wag na natin -- kasi babalik-balikan pa natin 'yan para mailagay dun sa project, which is a delay. Sana we normalize what we're doing so it's already in the GAA, hindi doon sa reserves. So pinapalitan talaga natin the way we do things para maging mas mabilis ang takbo," Marcos Jr. said in an interview with Palace reporters on Monday December 16.

"So, we will look into the insertions in the public works and see which ones are absolutely necessary, and maybe 'yung iba titignan natin kung talaga bang kritikal, we'll see," he noted.

Marcos Jr. noted that the public works will continue to receive a big chunk of the government's spending plan to finance big-ticket projects.

"Infrastructure is important, and don't forget flood control became such a big, big part of the work of the DPWH. We have to build things that we never had to build before. Binabantayan lang namin especially the ODA project, binabantayan talaga namin is to make sure that our debt ratios are still relatively manageable." the chief executive explained.
