Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Mary Jane Veloso reunites with her family after arriving at the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong on December 18, 2024. <em>Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA -- Various groups are continuing their campaign to gather signatures in support of their plea to President Ferdinand &quot;Bongbong&quot; Marcos Jr. to grant clemency to Mary Jane Veloso. </p><p>They hope she can finally reunite with her family this Christmas.  </p><p>Early Saturday morning, December 21, a group was already busy collecting signatures from visitors and churchgoers at Baclaran Church. </p><p>Rechilda Desunia, a former overseas Filipino worker and vice chairperson of Samahan ng mga DH sa Gitnang Silangan (SANDIGAN), leads the group. </p><p>Having faced abuse while working abroad, Desunia said she could also feel what Veloso is experiencing. </p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2024/12/18/timeline-mary-jane-veloso-s-decade-long-ordeal-from-indonesian-death-row-to-miracle-homecoming-1327">TIMELINE: Mary Jane Veloso&#x27;s decade-long ordeal from Indonesian death row to &#x27;miracle&#x27; homecoming</a></div><p>&quot;&#x27;Yong iba po na natatanong namin, nagdadalawang-isip sila pumirma kasi hindi nila kilala. Pero pag na-explain na po namin kung sino siya napapapirma naman po namin sila,&quot; said Desunia.  </p><p>Aside from collecting signatures in person, the petition is also available online, where over 3,000 supporters have already signed.  </p><p>&quot;Sana po sa pangulo natin. Bigyan po ng clemency si Mary Jane na agaran po kasi deserve niya po ang magkaroon ng tunay na kalayaan kasi wala naman po talaga siyang kasalanan kaya ako mismo ay nakikiusap sa Pangulo natin na sana po ay pakinggan ninyo ang aming kahilingan at ng buong mundo na mapalaya na po si Mary Jane Veloso,&quot; Desunia added.  </p><p>Those who signed the petition believe Veloso is innocent and deserves freedom.  </p><p>&quot;Ang pagkakaalam ko po kasi diyan is she is not guilty at all. At meron po siyang karapatan talaga na makalaya. Ang pagkakaalam ko po ay sinet up lang o tinaniman lang po siya,&quot; said Justin Salonga. </p><p>&quot;Gusto ko lang siyang mapunta sa magandang kalagayan dito sa Pilipinas. Kasi naaawa ako kay Mary Jane, pag ako nanonood ng TV. Bakit gano&#x27;n, anong nangyari sa kanya sa Indonesia?&quot; said Jun Formentera who passed by Baclaran church. </p><p>Last Friday, Mary Jane&#x27;s mother, Celia Veloso, accompanied by leaders of Migrante International and religious groups, went to Malacañang to personally ask the President to release her daughter.
