MANILA — Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla said he would ask the Parañaque City government to explain the existence of a raided company in Barangay Tambo which operated like a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO).

Last Wednesday, some 400 foreign nationals allegedly involved in scamming activities at the company were arrested by the Bureau of Immigration.

“Full operation eh, 400 plus, so susulat kami sa LGU magpapakita, hihingi kami ng paliwanag kung ano talaga ang nangyari,” Remulla said.

Remulla earlier said that LGUs were instructed to include the possibility of POGO operations of companies during their renewal process for business permits.

Remulla said he would release an order to mayors to submit at the end of every month a report that their cities or municipalities are POGO-free.

“Pero mensahe ito sa lahat ng LCE (Local Chief Executives), tibayin niyo trabaho niyo, husayan niyo trabaho, siguraduhin niyong inspeksyunin niyo lahat ng mga building kasi kayo rin ang mananagot kung mahuli namin na pinasok niyo mga building at hindi kayo nag-report sa amin,” Remulla said.

Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said the immediate deportation of the arrested foreign nationals, mostly Chinese, was in order.

“Undergoing pa ang processing so what we had to do is get their names and yung status, kailangan naming i-verify at cross-check sa immigration,” Viado said.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. last July announced a total ban by end-2024 on POGOs, which authorities said were used as cover by organised crime for human trafficking, money laundering, online fraud, kidnappings and even murder.
