Many devotees who joined in parade, meanwhile, wore white. <em>Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA (<strong>UPDATED</strong>) -- A white ribbon was seen tied to the scepter of Our Lady of La Naval de Manila as the Marian image was carried in its annual grand procession from the Santo Domingo Church in Quezon City on Sunday, October 12.</p><p>Many devotees who joined the parade, meanwhile, wore white as they carried lit candles through the streets.</p><p>This follows the call of Cardinal Pablo Virgilio David, president of the Catholic Bishops&#x27; Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), on Saturday for Filipino Catholics to use white clothing and ribbons as a prayer for the renewal of the country as it faces corruption issues and the impact of natural disasters.</p><p>David&#x27;s circular urged the faithful to wear white on Sundays of October and November, a suggestion of Digos, Davao del Sur Bishop Jimmy Afable.</p><p>Afable had also proposed displaying white ribbons as &quot;a sign of our desire for transparency, accountability, and good governance&quot; and to pray for the nation and its safety from further calamities, David said.</p><p>&quot;Let our white garments be a symbol of the purity we seek for our land and our hearts. May this season of prayer and repentance lead us to hope, healing, and the restoration of our common life in truth and justice,&quot; the cardinal added.</p><p>&quot;Let us beg the Lord to renew our nation, and make us instruments of justice and peace.&quot;</p><p>In the circular, David also reminded Catholics to continually observe the CBCP&#x27;s national call to prayer and public repentance, which began last October 7.</p><p>The CBCP introduced a prayer titled &#x27;A National Cry for Mercy and Renewal,&#x27; which described the Filipino people as &quot;a stray sheep that has fallen from the cliff, clinging desperately to a brittle branch, crying out for rescue.&quot;</p><p>The prayer will be repeated every Sunday until November 23 on the Feast of Christ the King.</p><p>Earlier this month, churches under the Archdiocese of Manila also began reciting the Oratio Imperata for Integrity, Truth, and Justice amid widespread corruption in the government.
