Kaya kahit parang ginaya ‘yung mga tulay sa ibang bansa ay talagang ito lahat galing sa atin,” he said.</p><p>“Kaya nakakatuwa na makita natin na kung ano ang tunay na kakayahan ng pamahalaan kung talagang lahat ng bawat — tiyakin na ang bawat sentimo ay mapunta sa tama,” he added.</p><p>The Camalaniugan Bridge, expected to be finished in January 2026, will connect Cagayan’s northeastern and northwestern parts.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2025/10/6/cagayan-s-piggatan-bridge-collapses-1743">Cagayan’s Piggatan bridge collapses</a></div><p>Elmer Escobar, the project engineer under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), said the two-lane bridge was constructed so residents from western Aparri would be able to access Camalaniugan town easily.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/10/9/dpwh-uncovers-421-ghost-projects-out-of-8-000-inspected-1030">DPWH uncovers 421 ghost projects out of 8, 000 inspected</a></div><p>Escobar said the 1.580-kilometer-long cable-stayed bridge would cut travel time from west Aparri to Camalaniugan to 20 minutes from the previous one hour.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>DELAY</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>“Iconic structure ito based on the study. Ito ang pinakamalaking bridge natin sa Region 2,” he said.</p><p>“Actually napili nila bakit iconic ito, kung bakit yan ay napili, ito ay dinadaanan ng mga barko. Maritime transportation, so yun ang purpose na ang dalawang span diyan ay 157.5 meters each para kasya at mataas,” he said.</p><p>The engineer also explained why the construction of the bridge has taken so long, as this started in 2021.</p><p>“Yung bidding kasi ang basehan. Noong 2021 kasi, nagkaroon tayo ng pandemic noon. So medyo delayed na ang implementation. Nagkaroon tayo ng variation dahil sa problema sa mobilization ng contractor, galing pang China yan,” he said.</p><p>“Medyo controlled ang entry ng technical workers nila here in the Philippines,” he said.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>MORE FUNDS NEEDED</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>The bridge will need another P260.2 million to complete the whole structure, according to Escobar.</p><p>“Ongoing pa ang project natin. Kailangan pa yung waterproofing nitong roadway at malagyan ng asphalt overlay.
