MANILA — The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) on Wednesday reported a 93 percent drop in illegal online gambling links and URLs in the Philippines in the third quarter of 2025.The CICC was citing a report from global anti-scam app developer Gogolook.“Nagkaroon po ng collaborative effort… the whole government approach to this,” CICC Acting Executive Director Renato Paraiso told state television PTV. (There was a collaborative effort)He said he had been told that foreigners are now afraid to go into illegal online gambling because of the tight regulations against it. <div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/technology/2025/8/15/10-000-illegal-online-gambling-sites-pinatanggal-ng-cicc-1228">10,000 illegal online gambling sites pinatanggal ng CICC</a></div>“Hopefully, we can maintain that. Sabi nga nila mas mahirap mag maintain ng &#x27;A&#x27; kaysa makakuha ng &#x27;A&#x27; (As they say, it is harder to maintain an &#x27;A&#x27; than to get it) so hopefully we can maintain the momentum,” he said.Despite the drop in illegal online gambling website links, the same study noted a 78-percent surge in the number of scam calls reported in the Philippines between July and September 2025.Paraiso did not give a direct comment on the spike in scam calls, but said that the government has been pushing to train more officials against different kinds of cybercrime.The CICC has coordinated with the Camp John Hay management to open a training facility for cyber forensics in Baguio City, he said.“Ang itretrain natin dito ay yung digital forensics natin, yung analysts natin para sa pag-aanalyze ng artifacts natin,” he said.(We will train our digital forensics people and our analysts) He said personnel from the Philippine National Police, National Bureau of Investigation and Department of Justice units focused on cybercrime)Earlier this year, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. directed government forces to scale up efforts against cyber crimes in the Philippines as data showed more than 21,000 crimes perpetrated through cellphones or the internet in the country in 2023.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/technology/2025/9/11/marcos-signs-e-governance-act-1907">Marcos signs E-Governance Act</a></div>The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has also been directed to curb different types of scams ahead of the holiday rush in the country, its secrtary, Henry Rhoel Aguda said last week.The government is working with telecommunications providers to ensure that sales establishments, especially those inside malls, are no longer using payment scheme connected to 2G or 3G networks, he said.From December 1 to 20, 2024, the Philippines recorded some 9,000 crimes, with theft among the most prevalent illegal activities during the holiday season.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/6/26/over-5-000-arrested-for-cybercrimes-since-january-police-say-0044">Over 5,000 arrested for cybercrimes since January, police say</a></div>
