Hong Kong authorities working on leads from families of two missing OFWs

<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:958px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/176051675666417604392997741760439294091.webp" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left"><em>Photo courtesy of the Hong Kong Police Force </em></span></span></span>MANILA — The Hong Kong authorities are working on leads provided by the families of the two missing overseas Filipino workers, the Department of Migrant Workers reported on Wednesday.</div><p>DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said the additional leads were based on the last conversation with the families of Imee Pabuaya, 24 and Aleli Tibay, 33 on the day of their disappearance.</p><p>“Nakausap na ‘yung mga pamilya and we have endorsed the proper information with the authorities but let me just say na meron mga certain leads in terms ‘yung huli nilang pakikipag usap sa kanilang mga mahal sa buhay. I’ll stop there na lang muna kasi baka maselan for the Hong Kong authorities,” he told reporters Wednesday, October 15.</p><p>Cacdac added that based on information from Hong Kong authorities, the two are believed to still be in Hong Kong as there is no recorded departure from the immigration.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/10/14/2-ofws-reported-missing-in-hong-kong-1720">2 OFWs reported missing in Hong Kong</a></div><p>There are also no reports of Pabuaya and Tibay encountering problems in Hong Kong, according to Cacdac.</p><p>“May mga espekulasyon and yun medyong maselang bahagi yung espekulasyon. Hindi ko muna babanggitin yun. For the Hong Kong authorities, they are still in Hong Kong walang record sa Immigration of a departure, so we are relying of course on the leadership of our consul general in Hong Kong with DFA and Hong Kong authorities,” he stated.</p><p>Cacdac assured that they are in constant coordination with the Philippine Consul General and the Department of Foreign Affairs in monitoring the matter.</p><p>“Sa abot ng aming pagkakaalam wala eh. So again we’re hoping for the best, we’re praying for their safety and their proper location na ma-identify na harinawa ay there will be a good outcome, positive outcome for us all here,” he emphasized.</p><p>The DMW chief recounted that they were informed of the situation four days after the disappearance was reported on October 4.</p><p>“Nakapag day-off sila at hindi na nanumbalik sa mga employers so ni-report din sila ng mga employer yun naman ang standard procedure doon eh,” he noted.</p><p>Cacdac assured that the Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration has been extending assistance to the families of the two missing OFWs.</p><div><br/></div><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/GWCQqDIfgfc?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div>
