Male and female detainees will be kept separate to ensure no couples are housed in the same cell.</p><p>Located closest to the Sandiganbayan, the New Quezon City Jail is considered more practical for court proceedings.</p><p>“This is a place where they will be detained during the hearings. Kung ma-convict sila, sa maximum security sila malalagay. But we’re showing we’re ready. Handa na ang BJMP (Bureau of Jail Management and Penology) para gampanan ang katungkulan namin,” Remulla told reporters during the inspection.</p><p>(If they are convicted, they will be transferred to maximum security. But we’re showing that we are ready. The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology is prepared to fulfill its duty.)</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/09/01/16/look-jail-cell-built-for-20-has-69-inmates">LOOK: Jail cell built for 20 has 69 inmates</a></div><p>The facility will also include an infirmary to attend to the medical needs of detainees.</p><p>“Papakita namin sa Sandiganbayan na handa ang BJMP kung ano man ang eventuality o ano man ang sakit nila,” Remulla said.</p><p>(We will show the Sandiganbayan that the BJMP is prepared for any eventuality or health issue they may have.)</p><p>Other amenities include a sunning area, basketball court, receiving area, and chapel.</p><p>The new wing will be staffed by at least 700 jail personnel equipped with body cameras, with strict security protocols in place.</p><p>Remulla stressed there will be no special treatment for detainees — no air conditioners and no personal communication devices.</p><p>Asked if prominent figures will be detained, Remulla replied: “We’re expecting whales. Mga balyena na mga kukunin natin dito, hindi mga gourami.”</p><p>(We’re expecting whales here, not small ones.)</p><p>“Ang nakikita kong mai-indict diyan ay mga DE (district engineer), congressman, senator, cong-tractor — ‘yong congressman na contractor,” he added.</p><p>(Those I see being indicted include district engineers, congressmen, senators, contractors — congressmen who are also contractors.)</p><p>“Kailangan kasi pakita natin sa tao na patas ang batas eh. ‘Yong nagnanakaw ng P100 na lotion sa SM, dito kinukulong.
