MANILA — The around P156 million slashed from the proposed 2026 budget of the Office of the Vice President was realigned to the Department of Health’s Medical Assistance to Indigent and Financially Incapacitated Patients (MAIFIP), according to House Committee on Appropriations chair and Nueva Ecija 1st House Committee on Appropriations chairperson and Nueva Ecija 1st District Rep. Mikaela Suansing. The House of Representatives earlier cut the proposed P889.2 million budget for the OVP next year to P733.2 million, citing Vice President Sara Duterte’s failure to appear before the House plenary to defend her office’s budget. The figure is the same level as this year’s OVP budget.“Yung kabuuan po ng kaltas sa Office of the Vice President ay inilipat po sa MAIFIP. So P156 million po yun sa kabuuan. Kasi po yung ilan po sa mga particular na programa na atin pong kinaltasan, kung naaalala nyo po, tinitignan po natin yung financial assistance and subsidy. Kasi po ang ating napag-usapan ay dapat po nasa ahensya po yun. The budget for financial assistance should be lodged in the different agencies like DSWD, DOH or DOLE. So yun po yung ginawa natin. Binatak po natin yun at lahat po yun napunta po sa MAIFIP,” Suansing explained.“Pero tulad po noong kondisyon na akin pong ibinigay, nung atin pong inaprubahan yung motion ni Congresswoman De Lima na ibalik po yung level ng Office of the Vice President sa level ng 2025, may dalawa po akong kondisyon na inilatag doon,&quot; she said. &quot;Una, kailangan po maprotektahan yung interes ng mga personnel sa loob ng Office of the Vice President. So malaki po kasing parte noong increase sa OVP budget na pinanukala ng DBM ay patungkol po sa salary standardization law, yung pagtaas po ng kanilang sahod,&quot; she added. &quot;So yun po pinrotektahan po natin yun. So yung increase na ipinanukala ng DBM para sa sahod ng mga OVP employees, ni-retain po natin yun sa third reading version ng GAB. Pangalawa po na kondisyon ko na kailangan po, kung makakaltasan man ang OVP, kailangan po yung pondo na matitira sa Office of the Vice President ay sapat para maipagpatuloy nila na magampanan ang mandato ng opisina,&quot; Suansing said. &quot;And with that po, even with the reduction, tumaas pa rin po yung kanilang supplies expense, tumaas pa rin po yung kanilang rent expense, yung operational expenses nila tumaas pa rin po. So even if the overall total was reduced by P150M to return the level to the 2025 levels, tumaas pa rin po yung iba-ibang mga components ng budget ng Office of the Vice President,” she noted.
