<p>MANILA — A massive fire broke out in a residential area in Sitio 6, Barangay Catmon, Malabon, on Wednesday afternoon, gutting rows of homes and leaving numerous families homeless.</p><p>According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Malabon, the blaze started shortly before 5:00 p.m. By 5:41 p.m., the fire alarm level was raised to Task Force Alpha, prompting a massive response from over 40 fire trucks across Metro Manila.</p><p>The affected area consisted of tightly packed houses made mostly of wood and other combustible materials, allowing the fire to spread rapidly.</p><p>One of the residents, Edelyn Mendoza, who has lived in the area for many years, shared that this was not the first time their sitio had been hit by a fire.</p><p>“Bale pangalawa na kasing sunog ito, ito yung pinakamalaki. Hindi sila makapasok kasi masikip lalo na sa amin sa taas, kanya-kanyang bukas na lang sila at sinira ang kuntador ng tubig para makatulong din,” Mendoza said, referring to the difficulty firefighters had accessing the area.</p><p>She added that almost everyone lost everything. “Wala na, ubos lahat. Kahit yung mga kasama ko, tupok lahat ng bahay nila, wala silang naisalba. Panawagan ko matulungan yung mga kababayan ko, mga nangangailangan ngayon talaga kasi kailangan nila ng tulong kasi walang natira.”</p><p>Another resident, Jaycee Pinaglabanan, was about to leave for work when he heard someone yelling that a fire had broken out.</p><p>“Papasok na ako, bigla may sumigaw na sunog, kaya hindi na ako tumuloy pumasok. Matapos ko masalba anak ko, mga gamit naman,” he said, describing how he prioritized rescuing his child before attempting to save any belongings.</p><p>The Malabon City Government immediately responded to the ongoing fire in Barangay Catmon. According to the city’s official report, one individual sustained a lacerated wound and is currently being treated at the Tonsuya Super Health Center. Two others were also reported to have required medical attention, one due to hyperventilation and another, a firefighter, after being bitten by a dog during the response.</p><p>City Social Welfare and Development Department (CSWDD) teams were quickly deployed to the area to assist and document affected residents.
