George Calvelo, ABS-CBN News/File</span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — More than P26 billion previously lodged for flood control projects will be reallocated to the education sector, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. said on Monday.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/9/16/deped-submits-p134-b-worth-of-wish-list-amid-flood-control-funds-reallocation-1243">DepEd submits P134-B worth of &#x27;wish list&#x27; amid flood control funds reallocation</a></div><p>In his speech at the National Teachers&#x27; Month and World Teachers&#x27; Day celebration in Pasay City, the President said teachers ensure the future of the next generation and the entire country.</p><p>This was why he said the Department of Education (DepEd) deserves the additional P26.55 billion budget, which could be used to boost their technological equipment, among other things.</p><p>“Meanwhile we have allocated P26.55 billion from the funds of the flood control projects which we have deemed not to be viable,” Marcos said.</p><p>“These funds will be directed to increase funding for classrooms, child nutrition, teacher compensation and technology in schools,” he added.</p><p>The President described the education sector as &quot;the best investment that any nation can make in its people.&quot;</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/9/26/marcos-to-reallocate-p36b-flood-control-funds-to-social-welfare-programs-1051">Marcos to reallocate P36B flood control funds to social welfare programs</a></div><p>Late last month, Marcos Jr. said around P255.5 billion initially for the Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) flood control projects next year would be moved to other agencies.</p><p>The Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) will also receive P9.3 billion from the flood control funds, while Technical Education and Skills Development Authority and the Philippine Science High School System will get P1 billion and P450 million, respectively. </p><div><br/></div><div><strong>MORE RESOURCES FOR TEACHERS SOUGHT</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>Resty Rodelas, OIC of DepEd Metro Manila&#x27;s chief policy planning and research division, said he was excited for the celebration, describing this as an event that recognizes teachers&#x27; efforts and sacrifices.</p><p>&quot;Isang beses sa isang taon nagkakaroon tayo ng Teachers&#x27; Day celebration, ito ay pagbibigay parangal na rin sa mga teachers sa kanilang dedikasyon, ginagawang pagsisilbi at walang sawang pagbibigay ng serbisyo sa mga mag-aaral,&quot; Rodelas said.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/9/17/dpwh-s-revised-2026-budget-proposal-slashed-by-p255-billion-following-review-0857">DPWH&#x27;s revised 2026 budget proposal slashed by P255B following review</a></div><p>He said more funds are needed to improve students&#x27; learning outcomes, most especially on literacy.</p><p>&quot;Isa sa napakagandang programa na dapat tutukan ng gobyerno ay bigyang pansin din ang pangangailangan ng guro lalo na sa classroom,&quot; he said.</p><p>&quot;Sa ganitong paraan, nabibigyan natin o natutugunan natin ng solusyon ang mga problemang kinakaharap natin sa klase,&quot; he added.</p><p>Annabelle Dela Cruz, an elementary school teacher in Caloocan, considers the event as something that recognizes their heroism but admitted that more support is needed for their learning equipment.</p><p>&quot;Bilang guro, kailangan pa rin namin ng computer sa school para at least [matulungan] namin ang mga estudyante namin sa larangan ng technology. So classrooms, medyo [improved] kasi sa ngayon 1 is to 40 yung aming classroom.
