MANILA — The Office of the Vice President (OVP) on Tuesday said that it was not informed of why Col. Raymund Dante Lachica, was removed from his post  as head of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Security and Protection Group, the unit assigned to provide security for the second-in-command.“The Office of the Vice President  was informed of the relief of Col. Raymund Dante Lachica upon his receipt of the order yesterday, October 6, 2025,” Vice President Sara Duterte’s office said in a statement.“No message or explanation was given to the OVP,” the statement read.The OVP thanked Lachica for his service, and saluted the official for his “resoluteness, professionalism, and integrity.”“The OVP expresses its sincere gratitude for the outstanding contributions made by Col. Lachica to our institution,” the statement read.“We have  accomplished more than our targets because of his support to the vision of a life of peace and comfort for all Filipinos.”<div>AFP EXPLAINS</div>The AFP earlier said that Lachica was reassigned back to the Philippine Army on Oct. 4 after a case was filed against him before the Office of the Ombudsman.The military said LtCol. Joseph Israel B. Eleosida was designated as acting commander of the AFP Security and Protection Group (ASPG).&quot;The AFP ensures a smooth transition of leadership to maintain the efficiency and professionalism of the ASPG in the performance of its mandated mission,&quot; it said. Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro told lawmakers that maintains that the AFP was still securing Vice President Sara Duterte despite Lachica’s reassignment.&quot;All mandated officials po are provided with appropriate security,” he said.In 2024, OVP special disbursing officer Gina Acosta told lawmakers that Duterte gave the go-signal to turn over P125 million in confidential funds to Lachica in 2022.
