Sen. Erwin Tulfo proposes tax holiday as relief amid infra projects mess

Secretary of Department of Social Welfare and Development Erwin Tulfo attends the Commission on Appointments hearing at the Philippine Senate on November 22, 2022.  Rep. Oscar Malapitan raised the issue on Tulfo’s citizenship, noting that the latter became an enlisted personnel of the United States Army from 1988 to 1992. Rep. Rodante Marcoleta, on the other hand, questioned Tulfo about his conviction at the lower court of four counts of libel and now pending before the Supreme Court. Tulfo requested an executive session to answer the concerns of Malapitan and Marcoleta.

Erwin Tulfo, acting chair of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, on Wednesday proposed a one-month income tax holiday as a form of &quot;financial relief&quot; in light of the controversy surrounding flood control projects.The senator filed Senate Bill No. 1446 known as the &quot;One-Month Tax Holiday of 2025&quot; that aims to return benefits directly to the working population.“The exposure of alleged anomalies on flood control projects, involving billions of pesos in public funds have gravely eroded public trust in government fiscal stewardship. The Filipino people have raised a clear and resounding clamor— ‘Ibalik ang pera ng bayan. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson.Lacson resigned from his post, noting his colleagues&#x27; “disappointment” over how he handled the investigation into anomalous flood control projects.
