Dennis Datu, ABS-CBN News</span></span></span></div><div><br/></div><p>MANILA<strong> (UPDATE) </strong>— Bansud, Oriental Mindoro Vice Mayor Alma Mirano appeared before   ABS-CBN News on Monday to clear her name after a DPWH official with a Sandiganbayan arrest warrant was arrested inside her apartment property in Sikatuna Village, Quezon City.</p><p>The DPWH official was wanted over a substandard flood control project in Naujan.</p><p>NBI agents arrived at the property early Sunday morning to arrest Dennis Abagon, Officer-in-Charge of the DPWH Quality Assurance and Hydrology Division and a regular member of the Bids and Awards Committee.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/11/24/6-dpwh-officials-detained-in-qc-jail-over-289-5-m-oriental-mindoro-flood-control-anomaly-2144">6 DPWH officials detained in QC jail over Oriental Mindoro flood control anomaly</a></div><p>Mirano stressed that Abagon was only renting her apartment.</p><p>“Hindi ko po siya  kaibigan at hindi ko po siya masyadong nakakausap, bale nakausap ko po siya dalawang beses lang po,” she said. </p><div><br/></div><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?height=314&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Freel%2F1867381150650230%2F&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=560&amp;t=0" width="560" height="314" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div><p>She explained that it was Abagon’s staff who arranged the rental when they began occupying the unit on October 3, 2024.</p><p>Mirano also denied claims that she hid or protected Abagon.</p><p>“Kailanman ay hindi ako magkukupkop ng sinumang tao na magnanakaw,&quot; she said.</p><p>Mirano recounted that when the NBI agents arrived at her property, she had no idea who the target of the operation was.</p><p>But  when she learned they were looking for a DPWH personnel, she immediately pointed officers to the unit being rented by the said employee.</p><p>Mirano is currently in her first term as vice mayor of Bansud, Oriental Mindoro.</p><p>The vice mayor said she is willing to cooperate with the NBI or any authority to help clarify the case, insisting that her conscience is clear and that she never harbored any DPWH personnel involved in corruption.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>PNP ISSUES WARNING</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>On Tuesday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) issued a firm warning on against anyone coddling individuals implicated in the controversial P289-million flood control project in Oriental Mindoro.</p><p>Acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. stressed that those found assisting the accused will face criminal charges.</p><p>“We understand the close ties among relatives and friends but accountability and the rule of law must always prevail.
