De Venecia, 4th District Representative of Pangasinan speaks during a plenary session at the House of Representatives on January 25, 2023.<em> HoR handout </em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The Office of the Ombudsman has certified that former Pangasinan Fourth District representative Christopher de Venecia had no pending case. </p><p>It said that records as of Dec. 2, 2025 showed that De Venecia had “zero pending criminal and administrative cases with the Office of the Ombudsman.” </p><p>De Venecia said the Ombudsman issued the clearance after reviewing the allegations of journalist and tricycle association leader Jaime Aquino, who had linked the former lawmaker to “ghost” flood control projects. </p><p>De Venecia said his accuser had admitted that the allegations were based on hearsay and secondhand information from unnamed “sources.”</p><p>Aquino failed to present documents to support his allegations, De Venecia added.  </p><p>“Habang dapat unahin ng bawat Pilipino ang transparency at accountability, kailangan din nating mag-ingat laban sa mga indibidwal na nagsasamantala sa galit ng publiko at naghahain ng mga walang basehang kaso para kumita,” De Venecia said in a statement. </p><p>He added that Aquino in 2022 was expelled from the National Press Club of the Philippines (NPC) for repeatedly filing complaints against government officials in a suspected extortion scheme.</p><p>De Venecia previously said that all projects under his tenure were “fully documented” and “properly executed.”</p><p>“I categorically reject the recent allegations regarding ‘ghost flood control projects’ in our district. These claims are entirely false and unfounded. Every project initiated under my tenure was fully documented, properly executed, and delivered to the communities it was intended to serve,” he said in an earlier statement.</p><p>De Venecia said it was concerning that complainants admitted to lacking evidence and even requested further investigation from the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) and the Office of the Ombudsman.</p><p>&quot;In other words, this case was filed without any substantiating facts,&quot; he said.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/11/25/dilg-vows-arrest-of-big-fish-in-flood-control-scam-1105">DILG vows arrest of &#x27;big fish&#x27; in flood control scandal</a></div><p>The former lawmaker added he was exploring legal remedies to hold accountable those who “propagate false and malicious accusations.”</p><p>&quot;While I am ready to provide all necessary evidence and documentation to demonstrate the legitimacy and proper execution of every project, I am also exploring all legal remedies available to hold those who propagate false and malicious accusations accountable, including civil and criminal recourse,” the statement read.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO: </strong></div><div style="text-align:center"><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/8qMhx9bIzxw?si=_FRryS0UstzK_M3d" title="YouTube video player" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div>
