<p>MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday denounced the use of a police uniform as a Halloween costume during a party in Makati City. </p><p>A photo that circulated on social media showed a man wearing a modified police uniform with its sleeves cut off. </p><p>The post quickly drew criticism from netizens and members of the law enforcement community.</p><p>Acting PNP chief LtGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the act was a serious insult to the institution and to those who serve in the police force.</p><p>“Kitang-kita naman, police uniform, sinira pa. Nilapastangan ‘yung uniform. The uniform symbolizes the Philippine National Police,” Nartatez said.</p><p>The PNP chief added that authorities would investigate the incident and the individual involved would be given the opportunity to explain his side.</p><p>“It will be investigated at syempre may karapatan siya magbigay ng salaysay o ibigay ang kanyang panig,” he added.</p><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/17621453011881762145294605.png" style="width:300px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div><p>Nartatez reminded the public that under Article 179 of the Revised Penal Code, the illegal use of uniforms or insignia—including the wearing of a police uniform by non-members—is a punishable offense.</p><p>“Malinaw ang nakalagay sa ating batas. This will lead to sanction or it can be penalized for arrest,” he said. </p><p>“In the past, pinalabas na natin itong mga anunsyo na ‘to. Ito ay batas lalong-lalo na sa ating mga artista or gumagawa ng pelikula.
