<p>MANILA - More than 17,000 barangays across the country identified as at risk of flooding and landslides are being urged to take immediate action as Typhoon Uwan continues to intensify over the Philippine Sea, according to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).</p><p>Based on the report of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Mines and Geosciences Bureau (DENR-MGB), thousands of barangays nationwide have been classified as moderately to highly susceptible to floods and rain-induced landslides from November 8 to 11.</p><p>“Now is the time to act. Every minute counts, and every barangay must be ready. We need swift, coordinated action to keep our people safe,” the DILG said in its advisory. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/weather-traffic/2025/11/8/ocd-typhoon-uwan-may-affect-54-provinces-metro-manila-1918"><strong>OCD: Typhoon Uwan may affect 54 provinces, Metro Manila </strong></a> </div><p>The DILG has directed local governments and disaster offices to closely monitor river systems and carry out preemptive evacuations, especially for families living near riverbanks, coastal zones, and low-lying areas.</p><p>Communities in landslide-prone locations are advised to watch out for ground cracks, leaning trees, or tilting posts, and to evacuate immediately when these are observed. </p><p>Coastal barangays are also urged to suspend all fishing and boating activities, as storm surges of more than three meters are expected.</p><p>Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committees (BDRRMCs) are tasked to lead evacuations and coordinate with PAGASA for real-time updates. </p><p>PREEMPTIVE EVACUATION</p><p>Authorities are strongly urging preemptive evacuation for residents in flood-prone, coastal, and landslide-prone zones.</p><p>Priority must be given to senior citizens, persons with disabilities, pregnant women, and children. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/11/8/metro-manila-prepares-for-super-typhoon-uwan-0840"><strong>Metro Manila prepares for typhoon Uwan </strong></a> </div><p>Residents in earthquake-affected areas are also warned to avoid sinkhole-prone sites, based on DENR-MGB advisories.</p><p>“Following President Marcos’ call for stronger disaster preparedness, we are mobilizing all barangays to act decisively and protect their communities before Typhoon Uwan makes landfall,” the DILG said.</p><p>“Disaster preparedness is everyone’s responsibility — from governors, mayors, and barangay leaders to national agencies and citizens.”</p><p>Residents are advised to stay alert, monitor official weather bulletins from PAGASA, and heed evacuation orders from local authorities.</p><div><br/></div><div>  </div>
