PCO/Facebook</span></span></span></div><div><br/></div><p>MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. on Monday urged newly-commissioned officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to be loyal only to the country and not to any individual or faction, citing their importance in nation-building.</p><p>In his speech before more than 600 graduates of the officer candidate course, Marcos, Jr. said they have the duty to defend the Philippines and serve the Filipino people.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/11/30/group-of-generals-flag-officers-condemns-call-for-afp-to-withdraw-support-from-marcos-jr-0804">Group of generals, flag officers condemns call for AFP to withdraw support from Marcos Jr.</a></div><p>“We will stay vigilant against any attempt to weaken our sovereignty or test our resolve. This is why your training will matter even more. You are now part of a new generation of soldiers who must think fast, act smart, work closely with others – whether within our ranks or partners abroad,” Marcos, Jr. said.</p><p>But more than this, the President said the AFP must continue to “rise above politics.”</p><p>“Your loyalty must not be for any individual or any factions, but only to the Republic. The time and effort that you spent in this course has taught you that becoming full-fledged officers, your integrity is carried in your uniform and rank,” he said.</p><p>“This government remains committed in building a modern and professional armed force, we continue to invest in radar systems, ships, aircrafts, facilities that will strengthen our deterrence and improve disaster response,” he siad.</p><p>He also urged the new generation of soldiers to become an example of honesty and bravery in service.</p><p>According to an AFP release, 333 of the officer candidate course’s graduating cadets are from the Philippine Army, while 170 and 148 came from the Air Force and the Navy, respectively.</p><p>Graduates will become second lieutenants if they are commissioned under the Philippine Army and the Philippine Air Force.
