<p>MANILA — Education Secretary Sonny Angara assured the public of transparency in the budget for the construction of much needed classrooms after he met with with the Mayors for Good Governance (M4GG) on Thursday.</p><p>Local government units will now have a hand in the said construction.</p><p>The Department of Education chief said they will discuss the pricing and will make sure the cost of materials will not be far from what will be set.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/12/18/deped-vows-swift-probe-vs-teacher-who-allegedly-forced-student-to-eat-cockroach-0852"><strong>DepEd vows ‘swift’ probe vs teacher who allegedly forced student to eat cockroach </strong></a> </div><p>“Very important na transparent tayo sa pricing at nakikita ng publiko at yung gagawa talaga yung mga reputable companies talaga,” Angara said after the event.</p><p>(It is very important for use to be transparent on pricing and that really reputable companies will be tapped to build the classrooms) </p><p>“Papakinggan natin yung mga local governments kung alin yung mga prayoridad dahil alam nila ito yung tinamaan nung bagyo, ito yung barangay na lumalaki, so dapat siguro may foresight na tayo kapag nag-construct tayo ng classrooms,” he added</p><p>(We will listen to local governments on what the priorities will be because they which schools have been damaged by typhoons, which barangays have grown, so there should be foresight when we put classrooms up).</p><p>The bicameral conference committee has approved a bigger budget for DepEd, which now amounts to P961.3 billion from P874.5 billion in the National Expenditure Program.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/12/17/deped-16-000-teachers-promoted-thousands-of-promotions-still-being-processed-1836"><strong>DepEd: 16,000 teachers promoted; thousands of promotions still being processed </strong></a></div><div>  </div>
