97 Mindanao, Metro Manila congressmen back House Speaker Dy

<p>MANILA — Nearly a hundred congressmen from Mindanao and Metro Manila have expressed support for House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III, bringing the total number of House members, who signed a manifesto of support for Dy to at least 180.</p><p>Of this number, 67 were from the Mindanao and 30 were from Metro Manila.</p><p>“In times when our country is confronted with political divisions, economic uncertainty, and declining public trust in institutions, we believe that the House of Representatives must be led by a Speaker whose leadership is grounded in stability, continuity, and the rule of law,” the signatory congressmen from Mindanao said in their manifesto.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/12/1/house-speaker-dy-urges-unity-among-lawmakers-amid-corruption-scandals-1113">House Speaker Dy urges &#x27;unity&#x27; among lawmakers amid corruption scandals</a></div><p>“Your assumption of the Speakership came during a particularly tumultous time, where public perception against the government was badly affected by the serious flood control corruption issues. Despite this significant challenge, your calmness, sincerity, and principled approach have been a unifying force within the chamber,” the signatory congressmen from Metro Manila said in a separate manifesto of support for Dy.</p><p>“Going back to the past is not an option. We stand ready to work with you for a stronger and better House of Representatives,” the Metro Manila solons added.</p><p>Last month, the President&#x27;s son and Ilocos Norte First District Rep. Sandro Marcos and 38 other congressmen from the Northern Luzon Alliance signed a manifesto of support for Dy amid rumors of a possible leadership change at the House of Representatives. Dahil marami naman pong mabuting mga programa ang ginagawa ng ating Speaker sa ngayon… Kung mayroon man tayo naririg na mga ugong-ugong, walang pong katotohanan ‘yun,” he said.</p><p>House Deputy Speaker Raymond Democrito Mendoza, meanwhile, denied that the manifestos of support were triggered by the possibility that someone could file an impeachment complaint against the President over allegations of budget insertion.</p><p> “That is not something that’s on the table. That is not something we are even aware of… It’s not even a factor,” he said.</p><div> </div><div><strong>AKO BICOL SOLON LEAVES CA POST</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>Ako Bicol Party List Representative Alfredo Garbin announced on Thursday that he left his post as member of the Commission on Appointments to “assume a more independent position” at the House of Representatives.</p><p>“After thoughtful reflection, I have decided to respectfully step down from my membership in the Commission on Appointments and to assume a more independent position in Congress,” he said in a statemet.</p><p>“This decision comes from a place of personal conviction and continued commitment to public service—not from any form of disagreement, resentment, or political rift. Public service has always been, for me, about responsibility, accountability, and honest engagement in nation-building. I wish to emphasize that I will continue to support all programs, measures, and initiatives of the House leadership and the Majority that are genuinely beneficial to the Filipino people. I firmly believe that good governance transcends political alignment, and cooperation must always prevail when the public welfare is at stake,” he said.</p>
