<div> </div>MANILA — The Commission on Elections on Thursday said they want 2025 midterm election candidates to report how much they spent campaigning through social media personalities or influencers.Speaking on ANC, Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia said the commission has passed a resolution that the poll body will &quot;make presumptions&quot; that celebrities or influencers who endorse candidates were paid to do so.He said endorsements that were given for free should be reported as donations.&quot;Pag di namin ‘yan nakita (If we do not see that)… then you will be liable for perjury and violation of the Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE),&quot; he said.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/11/3/comelec-social-media-and-ai-rules-do-not-police-campaign-content-939">Comelec: Social media and AI rules do not police campaign content</a></div>Even though social media personalities or influencers can easily say that they were not paid for their endorsements, their &quot;free&quot; services should still be reflected in the SOCE because &quot;there is a corresponding amount&quot; for them, Garcia said.&quot;Kaya po siya contribution, you have to require the celebrity or the influencer to submit to the Comelec… the form for the contribution for free, dapat may value ‘yon,&quot; he said.Garcia however said that all political ad spending before Feb. 11 or the official start of the campaign period will not be counted.Meanwhile, Garcia said TikTok and Google would block political advertisements while X (formerly Twitter) and Meta, Facebook’s parent company, would allow campaign ads.He noted that X and Meta would report who availed of the placements and their cost.
