The Philippine leader made the statement as he administered the oath of office to 35 newly promoted general and flag officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and to nine graduates of the foreign military academies in a ceremony at Malacañan Palace.

In his speech, Marcos Jr acknowledged the courage, dedication, and patriotism of the AFP leadership, as he reminded them that the evolving security environment requires the military to be innovative, agile, and to have foresight.

“This career milestone testifies to the hard work, dedication, and adherence to the fulfillment of your duties as vanguards of your security,”” Marcos Jr said.

“As you move forth with your journey on this lifelong commitment to the nation, carry always with you the core values of the AFP. I am certain that you can never go astray so long as you are guided by the time-honored principle of serving with honor and with integrity.”

The President also urged the graduates of foreign academies to be inspired by the achievements of their senior officers as they grow into the AFP organization.

“The training, the discipline, the strategies that you acquired abroad will certainly boost our forces’ capabilities especially amidst the increasingly uncertain geopolitical landscape,” he said.

He said the country will count on them for fresh perspectives to improve national defense and cooperation with other countries.

He also assured the officers that the Philippines is resolute in preserving its sovereignty, in part by ensuring regional peace and international cooperation in activities like the recent joint maritime activity with Canada and the United States.

Speaking of the May elections, Marcos Jr. said the Philippines is at a “critical juncture” for the integrity of elections and of democracy.

“As a nation that deeply values and honors our right to vote, we are counting on the armed forces to ensure a peaceful, credible, and orderly conduct of the electoral process that the Filipinos expect from us. We cannot fail them.”
