MANILA — Some 200 Filipinos have yet to be rescued from the hands of syndicates in the "Golden Triangle," one of the world's major hubs for illegal activities, an official said Monday.

The "Golden Triangle" is where the borders of Myanmar, Thailand, and Lao PDR intersect.

Nicholas Felix Ty, undersecretary in charge of the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking of the Department of Justice, told TeleRadyo Serbisyo that hundreds of Filipino workers had been rescued from the perilous region since 2023.

But more Filipinos were still attracted to take risks there, especially after the shutter of offshore gaming hubs in the country, he said.

"Hindi tayo nagkulang magbabala, alam na ng karamihan ng mga Pilipino na peligro lang ang ipapasok nila sa ganitong mga trabaho pero nagpipilit pa rin dahil naakit sila, nahihimok sila sa mga ipinapangakong sweldo," he said.

He advised Filipinos planning to work abroad to ensure employment processes adhere to Philippine laws, including getting permits from the Department of Migrant Workers.
