MANILA — Carrying torches and banners, supporters took to the streets on Thursday to protest the disqualification of the barangay chairman of Barangay Doña Imelda in Quezon City over alleged premature campaigning.Barangay Chairman Butch Ubaldo will be replaced on Friday by his former opponent in the 2023 barangay elections, Ganda Yap.According to Barangay Clerk Jennifer Pallado, Yap filed a case against Ubaldo for premature campaigning, but they disagree with the Commission on Election’s decision in favor of the opposing camp.&quot;Naniniwala po kasi kami na meron po injustice or bias po na nagkaroon po ng decision ang ating Comelec. Wala naman pong patunay na si Kap mismo yung naglagay ng mga premature campaigning na yun,&quot; she said.They are also challenging the decision, arguing that based on the rules, the chairman’s successor should be a kagawad, and not the opposing candidate.&quot;Parang hindi po binigyan ng hustisya yung boto ng taumbayan. Di kami mabigyan ng tamang dokumento papeles ng comelec basta nagbigay lang po sila ng mga dokumento na may moveant na. Bakit ang papalit na successor ay talo?,&quot; Pallado said.Pallado said they will not prevent Yap from assuming office as barangay chairman tomorrow.&quot;Paano namin pipigilan kung sila ay kumpleto ng dokumento? Hindi namin aangkinin ang barangay ang pinaglalaban lang namin dito, asan ang boto namin?,&quot; she said.Ubaldo has filed a TRO with the Supreme Court and is awaiting for its decision.Ubaldo declined to comment, while ABS-CBN attempted to reach Yap&#x27;s camp, but they have not issued a statement as of this writing.
