MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced on Monday the arrest of another police officer linked to the controversial P6.7 billion drug case in Manila in 2022.At a press briefing, PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo identified the arrested officer as Police Staff Sergeant Arnold Tibay, who was apprehended by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) on January 31.“Nahuli siya ng CIDG noong January 31 si Sgt. Arnold Tibay ang isa doon sa 4 na active na at large at naka-assign ng SPD. Ngayon ay nasa custody siya ng DSOU (District Special Operations Unit) ng CIDG,” said Fajardo.“So 8 na lang yung ina-account natin including si Gen. Narciso Domingo and like what I said earlier we appeal to the remaining 8 former and active PNP personnel to respect the rule of law, and anyway they will be given their day in court.”<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/1/27/20-of-29-active-ex-cops-in-p6-7-billion-drug-case-now-in-police-custody-pnp-1421">READ: 20 of 29 active, ex-cops in P6.7-billion drug case now in police custody -- PNP</a></div>On January 15, the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) ordered the arrest of 29 policemen accused of bungling the prosecution of suspects in the 990-kilo shabu bust in Tondo in October 2022.Despite no surrender feelers from those still at large, Fajardo assured that authorities are open to hearing their side in court.“Pagbibigyan sila ng pagkakataon na sagutin itong mga reklamo. It would be in their best interest to just surrender and face the music,” she added.Meanwhile, PNP Chief Police General Rommel Francisco Marbil has formed a task force to track down and arrest the remaining suspects.The case stemmed from an October 8, 2022, anti-drug operation where PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) operatives seized 990 kilos of shabu in Manila. The drugs were found in an establishment owned by Police Master Sergeant Rodolfo Mayo Jr., an intelligence officer of PDEG.“Pinalabas nila later that date na naaresto si Sgt. Mayo doon sa may bridge, pinapalabas na doon siya naaresto so clearly based doon sa investigation ay there is a really deliberate attempt to remove Sgt. Mayo sa pagkakahuli niya noong tanghali pa lang noong Oct. [8], 2022,” Fajardo emphasized.So far, 21 active and former police officers have been arrested in connection with the case.
