Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News/File </span></span></span></div><div><br id="isPasted"/></div><div><br/></div><p>MANILA — Senate Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros pushed for her Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality to investigate in aid of legislation the &quot;alarming spike&quot; in cases of online sexual abuse of children using chat platforms and electronic wallets.</p><p>The resolution cited a new report by Deep Web Konek, a group of cybersecurity experts, which claimed that thousands of Filipino minors were victimized by or involved in sexual exploitation activities in chat platforms.</p><p>&quot;The rise of end-to-end encryption, while providing privacy and security to regular conversations, has also led to the impunity of sexual predators, whose illegal activities can fly under the radar and below law enforcement security,&quot; the resolution said. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/world/2024/5/26/over-300-million-children-a-year-face-sexual-abuse-online-study-713">Over 300 million children a year face sexual abuse online: study</a></div><p>It noted that the report identified more than 100 private channels dedicated to illicit digital content, with the largest channel boasting over 100,000 members and accumulating more than 40,000 digital files such as videos and photos.
