Arlene Brosas said, it shows a shift in political winds. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/2/5/house-impeaches-vp-sara-duterte-1551">House impeaches VP Sara Duterte</a></div><p>&quot;Kung bakit siguro nauna si Sandro Marcos doon sa pagpirma, siyempre niresulta na rin ito ng bangayan ng Marcos at Duterte,&quot; she said at a press conference of the Makabayan coalition.</p><p>(As to why Sandro Marcos may have signed first, of course that is a result of the Marcos and Duterte rivalry)</p><p>Rep. Marcos represents Ilocos Norte&#x27;s 1st District and is House senior deputy majority leader. And actually nagbabagong ihip na ang mga pangyayari,&quot; Brosas added.</p><p>(That means the situation is getting worse and this is the result. And actually, political winds are changing)</p><p>President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. spoke last year against impeachment, telling the House it would not help anyone and would only distract government from other issues.</p><p>The Palace, in a slight shift in messaging on impeachment, said this week that &quot;the President will not interfere in a matter over which a co-equal branch has exclusive jurisdiction.”</p><p>In the impeachment complaint that was signed by 215 of 306 members of the House of Representatives, the first article of impeachment cited Duterte&#x27;s threat against the Marcos family, which the vice president said was taken out of context.</p><p>House Speaker Martin Romualdez, whom Duterte has been critical of and has blamed for House hearings into her offices&#x27; spending of confidential funds, was the last to sign the complaint. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/2/5/list-the-congressmen-who-voted-to-impeach-vp-sara-duterte-2336">LIST: The House members who voted to impeach VP Sara Duterte</a></div><div><strong>MOST MINDANAO LAWMAKERS SIGNED COMPLAINT</strong></div><p>Brosas also pointed out that a large number of lawmakers from Mindanao, considered the Dutertes&#x27; bailiwick, signed the complaint.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/2/6/escudero-says-sara-duterte-impeachment-trial-can-t-be-done-during-congress-break-1105">Escudero says Sara Duterte impeachment trial can’t be done during Congress break</a></div><p>&quot;Kung mapapansin ninyo, 41 out of 60 doon sa Mindanao congressmen ay pumirma. So it entails, that means, the situation is changing even in their areas, among their constituents)</p><p>In representative democracies like the Philippines, elected officials are expected to be acting in the interest of and according to the sentiments of their constituents. </p><p>&quot;Yung sinasabi ng mga trolls na hindi ganito, pinagtatanggol pa rin nila yung mga Duterte, hindi na totoo yun kasi nagbabago na yung kalagayan. And super majority ang siyang pumirma. So yun yung mga, yun siguro, ang mga masasabi namin kaugnay sa kahalagahan nito,&quot; the lawmaker explained.</p><p>(What the trolls are saying that developments at the House do not reflect the situation on the ground, that is no longer true because the situation is changing. And the complaint was signed by a super majority.
