<p>The uncle of extrajudicial killing victim Kian delos Santos has chimed in on the arrest of former president Rodrigo Duterte whose war on drugs led to thousands of killings during his presidency. </p><script data-wid="auto" type="text/javascript" src="https://content.viralize.tv/display/?zid=AAEyze-tm4MR6kEa&amp;cid=ABVaRhZ4uj4KcqW9"></script><p>Speaking to TeleRadyo Serbisyo, Randy delos Santos said he is thankful that justice may soon be at hand for the Duterte drug war victims who were killed without due process.</p><p>He also criticized those who say Duterte’s rights were violated when he was turned over to Interpol and flown to The Hague, The Netherlands to face possible trial for crimes against humanity.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/3/13/ex-president-duterte-arrives-at-icc-detention-center-0901">Ex-president Duterte arrives at ICC detention center</a></div><p>“Napakabigat na isipin na tila biktima sila dito, na hindi binibigay ang karapatang pantao nila. Teka, nung kasagsagan nung kampanya nila, binalikan ba natin kung paano ‘yung mga naramdaman ng mga pamilya?”</p><p>“E si Kian nga hindi binasahan ng Miranda rights. E ang ating pangulo, dating pangulo kumpleto. Meron mahuhusay na abogado, merong mga edukadong abogado na nakapalibot sa kanya. Binasahan siya ng kanyang karapatan. ‘Yun ang proseso.”</p><script data-wid="auto" type="text/javascript" src="https://content.viralize.tv/display/?zid=AAEyze-tm4MR6kEa&amp;cid=ABVXlSQbLsU1ZxMP"></script><p>He added that families of EJK victims which government agency to approach so they could file a case since no investigations were being conducted in the killings.</p><p>Kian’s murder in August 16, 2016 gained nationwide attention after CCTV footage debunked police claims that Kian had pulled a gun and fought back against the police, which led to the shooting.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/08/24/17/police-say-kian-was-killed-before-drug-links-known">Police say Kian was killed before drug links known</a></div><p>Witnesses said police had blindfolded and beat up Kian, who pleaded for his life before he was shot.</p><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/cj-XMJIHHO?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div><p>Duterte earlier told a Senate hearing that he will take responsibility for the war on drugs but not for Kian&#x27;s death. &quot;Guilt is personal. Magtanong ka muna ng abogado,&quot; he told Sen. Risa Hontiveros.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/10/28/duterte-denies-responsibility-for-death-of-kian-delos-santos-2013">Duterte denies responsibility for death of Kian Delos Santos</a></div><p>In a separate inquiry, Randy Delos Santos  told senators that Kian’s killing affected their entire family after they were identified on national TV as drug pushers, which he denied. </p><p>He said he was fired from his job while his brother had a stroke after Kian’s trial, which saw <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/11/29/18/3-cops-found-guilty-of-murder-over-kian-delos-santos-slay">3 police found guilty of the teenager’s killing</a>.</p><p>Delos Santos now works as a field coordinator for Project Paghilom, which helps families of 312 victims of extrajudicial killings.</p><p>He said of the 312 killings, not one had been investigated by police “after families allegedly signed affidavits saying they were no longer interested in filing charges against the police.”</p><p>Some of the victims even had death certificates stating that they “died of natural causes,” he said.</p><p>In the interview, Delos Santos encouraged families of EJKs to come forward and tell their story after staying silent during the drug war. </p><p>“Hindi hahayaan ng Diyos na tayo’y manatili sa takot…Gagawa ang Diyos ng paraan at ito na ‘yun, na lalabas ang kanilang storya matapos ang anim na taon,” he said.</p><p>“Ang katarungan ay laging nandiyan, humahanap lang siya ng tamang panahon at pagkakataon. Lumabas ho kayo at ikuwento niyo ang inyong mga storya dahil ito na ang pagkakataon. Para ito sa inyo.”  </p>
