MANILA — Actor-turned-politician Lito Lapid vowed said he would keep on working hard as he clinched his fourth Senate term.

Lapid, running under the Nationalist People’s Coalition, placed tenth after garnering more than 13.394 million votes, based on Commission on Elections’ count.

"Maasahan niyo na po, pang-apat na term ko na o ito bilang senador, gagawin ko po ang lahat ng aking magagawa at sisipagan pa natin ang paghahanap ng mga batas para sa ating mamamayang Pilipino na mahihirap," he said in a short speech.

(You can count on me — it is my fourth term as senator — that I will do all I can and will work harder. We will look for laws that will benefit poor Filipinos)

In his speech, Lapid thanked President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the administration Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas slate, and Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco — slate campaign manager — for the support during the election campaign.

Back in October, Lapid vowed to push legislation on agri-tourism in case he gets elected.

He also said he would also expand the "Lapid Law" or Free Legal Assistance Act of 2010, which incentivizes lawyers and law firms to render free legal services to the poor.

Lapid ran under the Alyansa ng Bagong Pilipinas' senatorial slate endorsed by the Marcos administration.

Lapid first became senator in 2004, and served two consecutive terms in 2016.

After taking a three-year hiatus, he returned to the Senate in 2019. During his break from politics, Lapid played “Ang Pinuno”, a villain-turned-hero not far from the crime-fighter on horseback "Leon Guerrero" from his movie heyday.
