Handout/Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Panfilo &quot;Ping&quot; Lacson is proclaimed as a senator-elect by the Commission on Elections, May 17, 2025. <em>Handout/Panfilo Lacson Media Team</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA – Panfilo &quot;Ping&quot; Lacson on Sunday was proclaimed by the Commission on Elections as a senator-elect, marking his comeback to the upper chamber after getting the 7th spot in the midterm elections.</p><p>He received more than 15.1 million votes based on the official count from the National Board of Canvassers.</p><p>In his speech, he said he is grateful to many for the win but that he would only mention three individuals who brought him to where his now: God, his mother and his father.</p><script async="" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charSet="utf-8"></script><p>He said that his mother taught him and his siblings early on to never steal and to never take what was not for them.</p><p>He said his mother even made his brother look for the owner of a centavo coin he had picked up in school.</p><p>Lacson meanwhile credited his father for his guiding principle in life: &quot;Ang tama ay ipaglaban, ang mali ay laging labanan.&quot;</p><p>(Fight for what is right, fight what is wrong)</p><p>As part of Alyansa slate, he however acknowledged earlier that the surprising poll results reflect that the <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/5/14/just-hype-alyansa-candidate-ping-lacson-says-admin-machinery-failed-1517">&quot;much-hyped admin machinery failed&quot;.</a></p><p>&quot;The people have spoken. Big surprises on big wins and big upsets... The much-hyped administration machinery especially during the midterm elections failed,&quot; he stated.</p><p>Saying he would work as a &quot;fiscalizer&quot; in the Senate and &quot;vanguard&quot; of the national budget, <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/10/2/lacson-files-candidacy-for-senate-comeback-912">Lacson filed his candidacy in 2024</a> after a 2-year hiatus from public service.</p><p>This even after he stated before that the only options he had were running as president in 2022 or retirement from politics. He sought the former and lost to now President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. </p><p>Lacson served in the Senate from 2001 to 2004, re-elected in 2007 and again in 2016.
