<p>MANILA — A 24-year-old man was arrested in an entrapment operation conducted by the Quezon City District Anti-Cybercrime Team (QCDACT) after he was caught selling his bank account online for P2,500, authorities said.</p><p>QCDACT chief PLt. Col. Crisostomo Ubac said the suspect was apprehended in front of a bank in Brgy. Bago Bantay following a successful cyber-patrolling operation.</p><p>“Na-monitor natin through [sa] tinatawag nating cyberpatrolling. Kung mayroong pagpapatrolya sa kalsada, mayroon din tayong ginagawa sa cyberspace. So open naman po itong mga activities na ito, pina-publicize nila for sale ganito,” said Ubac.</p><p>According to him, the suspect’s social media post offering the sale of his bank account was flagged by QCDACT’s cyberpatrollers. After confirming the offer, authorities arranged a meet-up and conducted a sting operation.</p><p>“Habang nagsa-cyberpatrolling ang tropa natin—cyberpatrollers natin—namonitor ito. Nagbebenta siya ng bank account niya, so in-engage natin ito. Then we come up sa meet-up and then, well, chineck natin na sa kanya nga at active pa ang bank account na ito,” he said.</p><p>During the operation, the suspect handed over the ATM card to an undercover operative. After receiving the entrapment money, he was immediately arrested. Confiscated from him were the ATM card and the marked “boodle” money.</p><p>Ubac noted that some individuals sell old or unused payroll accounts, which can later be used for illicit purposes.</p><p>“Ito’y mga accounts nila na hindi nagagamit. Kasi minsan yung mga kababayan natin dating nagtrabaho, may mga payroll accounts. Then paglipat nila ng ibang kumpanya, andun pa rin—active pa rin mga payroll accounts nila,” he said.</p><p>Authorities warned that such bank accounts are often exploited for illegal transactions.</p><p>“Yes, definitely. Bakit naman tayo maga-acquire ng isang bank account kung hindi ito gagamitin usually sa mga pinagbabawal na activities. And usually nga yung mga scamming, which is very rampant nowadays. So pag hinanap natin kung kanino napunta pera o transactions, hindi sa kanila iyon,” Ubac said.</p><p>“Ipapasok ng mga scammers ang pera sa account na iyon and then ilalabas din nila agad. Siyempre, iwa-warrant natin iyon. Ang procedure is we file sa court ng cyberwarrant para ma-disclose yung mga computer data,” added Ubac.</p><p>Since January, QCDACT has already apprehended seven individuals for selling or facilitating the sale of bank accounts and ATM cards online.</p><p>“Bawal po ang magbenta ng ating personal bank accounts, bawal po ipagamit, ipahiram at bawal din po bumili. Dahil ang mga bank accounts na iyan ay personal transactions po natin, at hindi puwede gamitin ng ibang tao,” Ubac said.</p><p>The arrested suspect is currently in QCDACT custody.
