MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. needs to show "extreme sincerity" to prove that he is open to reconciling with the Dutertes.

Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, an ally of the Dutertes, gave this remark a day after Marcos said in his podcast that he wants reconciliation.

“Magandang kuwan 'yan, magandang simulain 'yan. Magandang simulain.

Asked if the Duterte family would be open to reconciliation, Dela Rosa said: “Wala naman sigurong gustong forever mag-away.

Dela Rosa was pertaining to the International Criminal Court's (ICC) arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

“Hindi 'yan mapapatunayan sa salita eh. Nasa gawa 'yan,” he added.

Dela Rosa said he has no idea as to the possible motive of the President.

Meanwhile, fellow senators JV Ejercito and Jinggoy Estrada supported the President's call for reconciliation, saying officials should focus on nation-building now that the elections are over.

“We have so many pressing problems that need us to work together and stay focused. I hope we can just prioritize the country’s current challenges. If we join forces, we can help our people and our country move forward,” said Ejercito.

Senator-elect Ping Lacson, for his part, said the president's call for reconciliation could be interpreted by others as a "weakness."

Lacson volunteered himself to be Marcos Jr.'s bastonero, or platoon leader in Tagalog, to “make government officials under him toe the line.”
