MANILA – The Department of Justice said on Tuesday it is preparing documents needed to request the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) for the issuance of a red notice against former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.

"We are still preparing the documents needed for an Interpol request for a red notice," DOJ spokesperson and Assistant Secretary Mico Clavano said in a statement.

"Yet, over and beyond Interpol, and upon consultation with the international law experts in the DOJ, there are many more options to consider," he added.

Clavano earlier said the DOJ may tap the Interpol to help serve the arrest warrant against Roque, who remains in The Netherlands as he seeks asylum.

He also said they can also seek assistance through other diplomatic channels.

Clavano explained that the DOJ is "in the process of identifying the best course of action."

"In the end, what we want is to give justice to the victims of the qualified trafficking case. Kasama sa trabaho ng gobyerno ang paghanap sa mga sangkot sa krimen at iharap sa husgado," he said.

When asked if they are looking at invoking a United Nations Convention like the one against Transnational Organized Crime or UNTOC, Clavano said it is "most likely not applicable to the circumstances present."

Last week, a Pampanga court issued a warrant of arrest against Roque, Lucky South 99 authorized representative Cassandra Li Ong, and 48 others for qualified human trafficking in relation to the scam hub in Porac.
