MANILA — Ako Bicol party-list Representative-elect Alfredo Garbin Jr. said on Monday that the supermajority backs the leadership of House Speaker Martin Romualdez.Garbin said their group will stay with the majority in the 20th Congress amid talks of a possible change in leadership.  &quot;Wala naman question eh. The major political parties support Speaker Martin Romualdez,&quot; he told reporters on the sidelines of the proclamation of winning party-lists in Manila.  &quot;In fact nagkaroon kami ng party leaders meeting last Friday. Ako mismo yung nagrepresenta party-list bloc. At kasama tayo sa majority,&quot; he said.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/5/19/-house-supermajority-wants-romualdez-as-speaker-in-20th-congress-2015">&#x27;House supermajority wants Romualdez as Speaker in 20th Congress&#x27;</a></div>Last Friday, political party leaders met in Makati City, but House Deputy Speaker David &quot;Jay-Jay&quot; Suarez denied it was a &quot;loyalty check&quot; and said it was a &quot;meet and greet&quot; after the 2025 elections.Garbin went on to explain that the meeting was more to discuss the rooms, assignments, and committee allocations.&quot;As to the Speakership, doon sa party leaders&#x27; meeting settled naman at si Speaker Martin Romualdez pa rin,&quot; he said.Garbin was asked to comment on Alyansa campaign manager and Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco&#x27;s remarks that the impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte cost the government-backed senatorial slate the election.&quot;When Toby [Tiangco] speak against the impeachment, he totally alienated himself from the supermajority of Congress. So that&#x27;s the effect of it,&quot; he said.  In a statement on Monday, Suarez of Lakas-CMD said at least 240 lawmakers signed a manifesto of support for Romualdez to continue his leadership into the 20th Congress.Suarez said the manifesto was supported by lawmakers from all major blocs, including Lakas-CMD, National Unity Party (NUP), Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), Nacionalista Party (NP), Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), and the Party-list Coalition Foundation Inc. (PCFI).Suarez and other House leaders have yet to hear of other possible contenders for speakership in the 20th Congress.
