MANILA — A total of 1,112 violations were reported on the first full day of implementation of the no contact apprehension policy -- almost 3,000 violations fewer than a week before.

He said most violations are on disregarding traffic signs, EDSA bus lane, motorcycle lane violations in Commonwealth, and public utility vehicles' inappropriate loading and unloading locations.

"Pero as compared po, last week, May 19, Monday, ang na-register ho namin is 3,982 sa no contact. Kasi even naka TRO ho kami, minomonitor pa rin namin yung mga violators sa aming CCTVs," he explained.

The SC partially lifted the TRO, prompting the policy's return yesterday, May 26, on major roads such as EDSA, Commonwealth, Quezon Avenue, Roxas Boulevard, C-5, Ortigas Avenue, and Macapagal Boulevard, and others.

Nuñez believes the policy will help alleviate traffic in EDSA once its rehabilitation begins on June 13.

"I think naniniwala ho kami na yung NCAP makakatulong ng malaki sa pagbawas ng [traffic sa] kalsada especially during the EDSA rehab," he said.

Meanwhile, transport groups questioned the implementation of NCAP, saying that the authorities should have prioritized fixing road issues such as potholes, illegible signage and adding timers in stoplights, before implementing NCAP.

The MMDA also announced that it will deploy more CCTV cameras with artificial intelligence for NCAP's reimplementation, but it may lead possible reduction of traffic enforcers.

"We're in the process of putting up more CCTVs with AI capabilities para po mas malawak na yung range. Kasi there are still some areas na wala ho pang CCTV at hindi pa ma-monitor. So doon po namin i-augment yung mga traffic enforcers namin," Nuñez noted.

There are some willing na mag-offer, meron din mga enforcer na gustong tumanggap. But with this NCAP kahit po sinong sakay maiiwasan na rin yung nagne-namedrop, anak ng kung sino sino magpapakilala, dito sa NCAP matatanggap mo na lang po notice of violation," he added.
