Agatha Gregorio, ABS-CBN News"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">An SUV crashes into the NAIA Terminal 1 Departure Area on the morning of May 4, 2025, leaving two people dead. <em>Agatha Gregorio, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA -- Three days after a tragedy at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 that claimed the lives of two passengers, the 47-year-old driver of the SUV involved in the incident has yet to speak to the media.</p><p>On Monday, the driver underwent online inquest proceedings before the Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office, facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in two counts of homicide, multiple physical injuries, and damage to property.</p><p>In the absence of a private lawyer, the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) has assumed legal representation of the driver.</p><div><a class="fr-green" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/5/6/marcos-orders-probe-on-naia-bollards-after-deadly-crash-1339"><strong>Marcos orders probe on NAIA bollards after deadly crash<br/></strong></a></div><p>However, even with his assigned lawyer, the driver remains mum.</p><p>“Basta nag-rely na lang ‘yong ating lawyer doon sa documents na pinadala sa kanya. Basta ang sagot lang daw niya is mental block. ‘Yon lang daw ang sinagot niya sa lawyer natin, wala na,” said Atty. Revelyn Ramos-Dacpano, Regional Public Attorney and Head Executive Support Staff of PAO-NCR.</p><p>“Hindi naman natin siya pwedeng i-force to talk kung mental block nga siya or ano. Hindi natin alam ang rason niya kung bakit mental block ang sinasabi niya,” she added.</p><p>The owner of the SUV has not yet contacted PAO, but the Aviation Security Unit previously said the company driver just dropped off his employer at the airport.</p><p>“Walang sinabi kung anong klase siya, basta hardware driver siya. Hindi naman tayo p&#x27;wedeng mag-assume kung ‘yong hardware ba ay pagmamay-ari no’ng may-ari no’ng SUV. Basta hardware driver daw siya,” Dacpano said.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>PAO: SUSPECT ENTITLED TO CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS</strong></div><p>PAO emphasized that the driver is entitled to his constitutional rights. </p><div><a class="fr-green" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/5/5/driver-in-naia-crash-faces-reckless-imprudence-charge-1645"><strong>Driver in NAIA crash faces reckless imprudence charge</strong></a></div><p>“Siyempre kailangan maging maingat tayo sa paglalabas ng identity ng mga tao. Lahat naman ng naakusahan, may karapatan yan. Nasa batas ang karapatan nila so ‘yong presumption of innocence nga e, constitutional rights ‘yon ng bawat inaakusahan,” Dacpano furthered.</p><p>According to the PAO official, the charges against the driver are bailable, given that the penalty falls under the correctional level ranging from two to six years imprisonment.</p><p>“So bailable siya, one occurrence lang kasi ito parang one act, ito ‘yong mga naging biktima niya.
