MANILA — The Philippine National Police on Thursday said a total of 3,616 arrests were made during the six-month nationwide gun ban, which concluded on Wednesday.

The gun ban, imposed from January 12 to June 11 — the election period for this year's midterm polls — aimed to ensure peace and public order.

Based on the latest National Election Monitoring Action Center (NEMAC) report, the PNP conducted 998,679 checkpoint operations nationwide, resulting in 265 arrests.

Additional operations led to further apprehensions: 1,879 individuals were arrested during police response operations, 556 during anti-illegal drug operations, 229 from gun buy-busts, 686 during other law enforcement operations, and 1 during an internal security operation in Bicol region.

Of the 3,616 arrested individuals, 3,462 were civilians, 61 were security guards, 16 were foreign nationals, and 21 were PNP personnel (19 active, 1 absent without leave, 1 suspended).

Also among those arrested were 19 from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, 14 elected government officials, 8 members of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU) Active Auxiliary, 7 from other law enforcement agencies, 3 children in conflict with the law, 3 from communist terrorist groups, and 2 appointed government officials.

Metro Manila recorded the highest number of arrests at 1,271, followed by Central Luzon with 435, Central Visayas with 429, and Calabarzon with 336.

In total, 3,702 firearms were recovered.

These included 1,317 revolvers, 1,057 pistols, 28 rifles, 28 shotguns, and 908 classified as other firearms.

Also seized were 79 Class A, 7 Class B, 38 airguns or airsoft guns, 136 replica firearms, 15 unclassified firearms, and 89 explosive devices.

Police Gen. Nicolas D. Torre III, PNP chief, said the conclusion of the gun ban does not mark the end of police efforts to maintain peace and enforce the law.

“We will not let up. The conclusion of the gun ban marks a transition, not an end. The PNP remains committed to sustaining peace, preventing gun-related violence, and protecting every Filipino from crime and lawlessness,” he said.
