MANILA — Vice President Sara Duterte on Sunday acknowledged the importance of fathers' guidance during life's uncertainties, as she thanked them for their sacrifices, hard work, and unwavering love in a Father's Day message.

"Maraming salamat sa inyong katatagan sa panahon na ang pamilya ay nahihirapan. Maraming salamat sa inyong patnubay sa mga panahong tila walang katiyakan," the vice president said in a recorded message.

Duterte released the message as she faces the threat of an impeachment trial at the Senate.

She was impeached in early February on charges of graft, corruption, and an alleged assassination plot against former ally and running mate President Ferdinand Marcos.

A guilty verdict would see her removed from office and permanently barred from politics.

"No one can stop this anymore, because jurisdiction has been acquired already by the impeachment court," said Congresswoman Gerville Luistro, pointing to the Senate's issuing of a summons for Duterte late Wednesday night.

"There will be no... withdrawal (of the impeachment case) by the House. That is not allowed by the constitution."

Duterte also recognized fathers' steadfastness, which she said serves as the foundation for security, peace of mind, and a path for children to grow into responsible and disciplined individuals.

Her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, is detained at The Hague in the Netherlands to face charges of crimes against humanity over his years-long campaign against drug users and dealers that rights groups say killed thousands.

"Ang inyong pagsisikap ay nagpapaalala sa amin ng inyong dalamhati at pagmamahal sa pamilya," Sara Duterte said.

"At ito rin ang nagiging magandang halimbawa na nagbibigay ng inspirasyon sa mga kabataan," she said.

"Sa bawat ama na patuloy na lumalaban, naglilingkod, at walang pagod na itinataguyod ang pamilya sa kabila ng hirap — hangad ko ang inyong tagumpay."

Rodrigo Duterte's defense team at the International Criminal Court has filed a motion for his interim release to an unnamed country, stating the prosecution would not object.

In a filing posted to the court's website late Thursday, defense lawyers said the involved country — the name of which was redacted — had expressed its "principled agreement to receive Mr Duterte onto its territory."

ICC prosecutors have agreed not to oppose the request, according to the filing, which said discussions about an interim release had been underway since Duterte's first court appearance at The Hague on March 14.

In April this year, Sara Duterte thanked Marcos Jr. for her renewed relationship with her father, saying  "there was forgiveness between" her and her father "for all that has happened in our lives."

"We have a relationship now, a father-daughter relationship. Since we cannot discuss anything legal anymore because it is understood inside that only the lawyers can discuss legal matters with the former president, So, we only discussed family, and this has been one of the longest meetings I have had. I have this every day with him, talking about life," the younger Duterte said then.
