MANILA — The Philippine National Police said Monday it removed 8 police chiefs in Metro Manila from their posts due to failure to comply with the 5-minute response time policy for emergency calls.

“Pina-relieve ko ang mga chiefs of police na yun sapagkat hindi sila maka-cope up or ayaw nilang mag-cope up sa standards,” PNP chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III.

“I’ve explained to them, we will not be able…to deliver on the 5-minute response promise, as directed by the President, hindi namin mako-comply ito, kung ganoon ang reaksyon ng mga opisyal na yun,” he added.

Those removed from their posts included the police chiefs of Navotas, Caloocan, Valenzuela, Mandaluyong, Marikina, San Juan, Parañaque, and Makati, said PNP spokesperson BGen. Jean Fajardo.

Torre earlier promised the public that officers would respond to 911 calls in Metro Manila within five minutes.

He said they eyed cutting the response time down to three minutes after three months.

Torre said three other provincial police directors from Negros Island region, Western Visayas, and Central Visayas could be removed from their posts.
