Marcos tells government officials: perform or get out of the way

Relieved. Next. And that&#x27;s what we should do,” Marcos said.“We have to be very, very strict. Look, kahit kaibigan kita, mahal kita at lahat, pero hindi mo nagagawa yung trabaho, eh. Hindi naman ito tungkol sa pagkakaibigan o pagmamahal natin sa isa&#x27;t isa kung hindi para sa serbisyo para sa tao,” Marcos continued.The Philippine leader said the ongoing performance review is also part of a broader effort to remove the culture of “business as usual” in government.“Ayoko talaga yung &#x27;business as usual&#x27; kasi ang dami nating problema; naging problema yan kasi &#x27;business as usual&#x27; tayo nang katagal-tagal. Ilang dekada tayong &#x27;business as usual.&#x27; Eh anong nangyari sa atin?” Marcos said.Marcos notes there had been several instances where he was misled by his own officials, receiving glowing reports that did not reflect reality on the ground.“At any level of government, it&#x27;s very different to receive— makatanggap ka ng report, na sasabihin, natapos namin yung project, ganito yung ginastos namin, may picture na maganda. Pero pag pinuntahan mo, iba. Iba talaga. Totoo pala yung report, maganda yung report. Alam mo na yung taong yun hindi nagsisinungaling sa iyo,” he said.“Halimbawa, may report, napakaganda ng lahat, pero may kaibigan ka na taga-doon, sabihin, &#x27;Boss, hindi totoo yan, hindi nilang natapos.&#x27; &#x27;Talaga?&#x27; &#x27;Oo,&#x27; &#x27;Halika, puntahan natin.&#x27; Doon. Pag-explain-in mo yung tao. Siyempre kung ano-ano yung mga paliwanag niya,” he continued.“Hindi mo pala kaya, sige palitan kita. Hanap tayo ng mas magaling.”Without naming names, the Philippine leader admits that there had already been a number of officials who had been quietly removed or reassigned during his term.“Marami na. Marami na. Hindi nalang namin ina-announce, eh. Ako, trabaho ito. If you&#x27;re not helping, get out of the way. Kung &#x27;di mo kami tutulungan, umalis ka nalang dito,” he said.“Gawin mo ang gusto mong gawin pero pabayaan mo kami magtabaho. That&#x27;s my attitude all the time. So whatever &#x27;get out of the way&#x27; means — you&#x27;re fired or ifu-floating ka, o ililipat ka sa ibang part of the government. Whatever it is, just get out of the way so I can do my job.”
