Jervis Manahan, ABS-CBN News</span></span></span></div><div style="text-align:left"><br/></div><p>MANILA — A total of 2,300 PWDs from different areas in Metro Manila are set to earn from the e-bus for PWD initiative of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the agency said Thursday.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/6/17/dswd-inspects-e-bus-designed-for-pwds-1214">E-bus for PWDs to ply Metro Manila roads, says DSWD</a></div><p>These PWDs are grouped into 20 Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) associations with 115 members each across the National Capital Region.</p><p>Each association will operate an e-bus unit as a corporate shuttle for PWD workers.</p><p>&quot;Titingnan muna natin paano ang magiging takbo nito, earnings nila, ano ang pwedeng improve pa, kasi ang goal nga ng DSWD ay maging public transport na ito,&quot; said Miramel Garcia-Laxa, director of DSWD&#x27;s Sustainable Livelihood Program. </p><p>(We will see how it will run, how much are the earnings, and how they can further improve because eventually, DSWD&#x27;s goal is to transform it into public transportation.)</p><p>Each of the 20 PWD associations will be given by DSWD P2.25 million as capital fund to be used for livelihood program. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/6/17/tv-patrol-pwd-na-nabugbog-sa-bus-tutulungan-ng-dswd-pwd-friendly-e-bus-inilunsad-2051">TV PATROL: PWD na nabugbog sa bus tutulungan ng DSWD; PWD-friendly e-bus inilunsad</a></div><p>The associations chose to partner with Global Electric Transport Philippines (GET PH) for transportation as their livelihood program.</p><p>Each bus, with its ticket sale, earns around P30,000 to 40,000 a month, Garcia-Laxa said.</p><p>Half of the earnings will go to GetPH to pay for the bus units which costs around P4.5 million.</p><p>The other rest of the earnings will be given as dividends to the members of the PWD associations. </p><p>Garcia-Laxa said the each of the PWDs can earn up to P1,000 a month. </p><p>&quot;Every time na yung group nila kailangan ng public transport for the activities ng group, pwede ito, and yun nga, tumatakbo sya as corporate shuttle,&quot; she said.</p><p>(Every time that their group will need public transport for their activities, they can use it, and it runs as corporate shuttles.)</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/life/multimedia/slideshow/07/27/22/advocates-hold-inclusive-mobility-walkthrough">A day in their shoes: accessibility walkthrough shines light on everyday challenges faced by PWDs</a></div><p>The e-buses are also very environmentally-friendly.</p><p>&quot;May charging stations ang Get PH at eventually mag-iinstall din sa pickup points. Yung PWDs pwede rin sila maging driver ng bus,&quot; Garcia-Laxa said. </p><p>(GetPH has charging stations and they will also eventually install charging stations in pickup points.
