Newly appointed Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III and Senator Bato Dela Rosa. Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News MANILA – Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III on Monday said there are "contingencies" in place should the International Criminal Court (ICC) issue an arrest warrant against reelected Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa.

Dela Rosa, a former PNP chief, was the chief architect of the Duterte administration's bloody war on drugs — the campaign from which former President Rodrigo Duterte's crimes against humanity charges before the ICC stemmed.

"Obviously, we are also making contingencies na 'pag may nangyari ngang ganito, ano ang ating gagawin, 'pag may nangyayaring ganon, ganon ang ating gagawin," Torre told reporters at Camp Crame shortly after being appointed as the new PNP chief.

(Obviously, we are also making contingencies so that if something like this happens, we know what to do; if something like that happens, we know what to do.)

Torre refused to go into detail, saying the government would make decisions when necessary.

"We'll just cross the bridge when we are there," he added. "It's really something that has to be acted upon 'pag andyan na, okay? We'll make decisions as it comes."

Dela Rosa earlier claimed that the ICC has an ongoing mission in the Philippines to gather affidavits related to the crimes against humanity case being heard at The Hague.

In March, the Philippine government surrendered the former chief executive to the ICC.
