MANILA — Incoming Senator Erwin Tulfo clarified that his statement about the impeachment complaint possibly being refiled in the 20th Congress is not official.

On Thursday, Tulfo said, “I think that the House will really refile it. That's what I heard from my colleagues.”

On Friday, he said this is just speculation, especially after a House prosecutor said there was no such plan.

“Usap-usapan na definitely ibabalik pero yung timing hindi,” Tulfo said after a press conference on Friday.

“I didn’t say na official na yan ire-refile ng Congress kaya nga sinasabi ko hangga’t hindi yung mga house leadership ang nagsalita or part of the prosecution, then lahat siguro kami sa baba, kasi I’m still a member of Congress, walang karapatan na mag-issue ng statement,” he added.

“Unless the House leadership will [sic] make a statement, Speaker Romualdez, at mga leaders at mga political party leaders, then puro speculation, we'll just be speculating.”

“Kasi si Speaker, galing ako sa Congress, he will always consult the house leadership and party leaders before he makes a decision. Kasi it's a, ika nga, an effort eh, a collegial body, hindi lang naman siya mag-dedecide noon.”

According to Tulfo, the colleagues he talked to were neither house leaders nor part of the prosecution panel.

CEASEFIRE

Tulfo said he will talk to members of the House of Representatives amid the ongoing word war with the Senate regarding the impeachment.

“I’ll try. I’ll talk to the house leadership siguro today or tomorrow, ceasefire na lang muna siguro kasi nag-aaway, medyo di rin maganda tignan. Nagbabangayan 'yung dalawang grupo, nagsisisihan,” he remarked.

He, however, recognized that there is freedom of speech and that government officials should not be onion-skinned when they are criticized.

Tulfo refused to say his take on the impeachment court returning the articles of impeachment, saying he still needs to look into it.
