MANILA -- The first group of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) repatriated from Israel amid rising tensions is expected to arrive in Manila on Tuesday morning, June 24, 2025.

According to Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Cacdac, they received 26 OFWs and one Filipino tourist on Sunday morning, after the group crossed into Jordan from Israel via the King Hussein Bridge.

Three other OFWs from Jordan and one OFW from the West Bank will also be part of the returning group.

"We were so thankful that they were all in good spirits," Cacdac said.

Most of the OFWs worked in hotels and as caregivers in Israel, according to Cacdac.

He also confirmed that eight OFWs had sustained injuries.

"What we know talaga is 8. Walo sila, discharged 'yung 7 and 1 in critical condition, critical and stable 'yung situation niya," Cacdac said.

Philippine Ambassador to Jordan Wilfredo Santos said the government’s repatriation efforts are not limited to OFWs.

"Di lang po mga OFW ang napapauwi ng ating pamahalaan, in fact, meron din pong as of today, 4 Filipino tourists have already crossed the border and booked connecting flights to the Philippines from Jordan. Meron ding isang tourist stranded from Israel tumawid ng border," Santos said.

When asked about contingency plans should Jordan, where repatriated Filipinos are currently crossing the border also come under threat, officials said the situation is being closely monitored.

"There is no direct attack in Jordan right now. The threat here is not as serious as in Iran. The increase in alert level will depend on the corresponding situation and the assessment we will make," he said.

Santos also reported that in Iran, there are around 1,000 Filipinos, mostly spouses of Iranian nationals and their children, with fewer than 30 working as OFWs
