MANILA — The Department of Education on Thursday announced it has received the go signal to offer 20,000 new teaching positions for 2025, in a bid to improve the national teacher filling rate.

DepEd said its request for 20,000 new teaching items has been approved by the Department of Budget and Management, "clearing the way to reinforce the teaching workforce and ease classroom burdens."

Education Secretary said every vacant teaching position is a missed opportunity for more children to learn.

"Kaya ginagawa namin ang lahat para ma-close ang gap na ’to. Hindi lang sa mabilis na hiring, kundi sa mas maayos at matalinong pag-deploy," Education Secretary Sonny Angara said.

Among the positions up for grabs are Teacher I, Special Needs Education Teacher (SNET), and Special Science Teacher I—to be distributed to all regions.

Most of the new teaching items were allocated to the Calabarzon region with 2,655 items, followed by Central Luzon with 2,152, and Central Visayas with 1,774.

The allocation is based on updated school directories, enrollment data, and validated teacher gaps, the DepEd said.

It also said the hiring of new teachers will be faster this time as the DBM has issued the Notices of Organization, Staffing, and Classification Action (NOSCAs) directly to Schools Division Offices and Implementing Units (IUs).
