Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News </div>MANILA — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is looking into increasing the monthly monetary-based assistance of P3,000 under its Walang Gutom 2027: Food Stamp Program. DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian said this is because of the existence of larger families in need of higher food credits.&quot;Isa &#x27;yan sa pinaaaral sa &#x27;min ng ating pangulo kasi kung matatandaan niyo, ang layunin ng ating pangulo sa programa na &#x27;to mawakasan ang kagutuman,&quot; Gatchalian said during a visit to Bgy. 117 in Tondo, Manila on Wednesday, June 4 to visit a Walang Gutom Program beneficiary. Among those with big families, is beneficiary Anselmo Brosas, the National Capital Region champion of the Walang Gutom Kusinero Cook-off Challenge, who, is feeding a family of 10.According to Bgy. 117 Captain Joel Gungon, on average, families in the barangay are composed of seven to eight individuals each. The Walang Gutom Program, catered towards food-poor families, now has 300,000 beneficiary households. But the <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/5/30/dswd-says-to-expand-walang-gutom-program-1830">agency&#x27;s goal</a> is to reach 750,000 families. Brosas said the program has been very helpful. But the tinapa vendor, who became a beneficiary last year, said he hopes for higher food credits at P5,000.&quot;Malaking bagay po kasi po nung araw, sa dami nga naman ng ano ko ay hindi talaga sasapat ang kita ko. At marami tayong puwedeng gawin para maiahon ang ating mga kababayan mula sa kahirapan. At para magawa &#x27;yun, kailangan efficient kami, mas mabilis kaming kumilos, mas maayos &#x27;yung mga programang aming inilulunsad-- mas angkop. At higit sa lahat, we work as if every day is our last day. Kung 24/7 then gawin natin 24/7,&quot; Gatchalian told the media.
