Photo from ABS-CBN Sagip Pelikula&#x27;s Facebook page</div>MANILA — The House of Representatives has expressed “profound gratitude and appreciation” to ABS-CBN’s Sagip Pelikula for its “outstanding legacy” in Filipino film restoration.During the plenary session on Wednesday, the lower chamber adopted House Resolution No. 2314, which recognizes Sagip Pelikula’s contributions over the past 14 years, “having successfully scanned, enhanced, restored, remastered, and reintroduced over 240 Filipino films to new generations of audiences.”“Sagip Pelikula restored a wide array of films across diverse genres and historical periods- from pre-war titles to contemporary classics- ensuring that invaluable cinematic works were preserved for posterity,” the resolution read.“By passing this resolution, Sagip Pelikula is recognized and celebrated for its dedication and effort in the restoration of Filipino films, bringing to light the brilliance of Filipino filmmakers, actors and storytellers,” it added.Sagip Pelikula thanked the House of Representatives for the recognition. “This commendation is also a tribute to the dedicated individuals, past and present, who poured their hearts into this mission through the years,” Sagip Pelikula said. “Together, we remain committed to safeguarding our nation’s cinematic heritage for future generations,” it added.The ABS-CBN Film Restoration Project ceased operations on March 31, its head Leo Katigbak said, ending a 14-year initiative that restored, enhanced and remastered around 240 films.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/showbiz/movies-series/2025/5/2/abs-cbn-film-restoration-ends-14-year-run-1348">READ: ABS-CBN Film Restoration ends 14-year run </a></div>Among the prominent restorations of Sagip Pelikula were “Himala” directed by National Artist Ishmael Bernal, Mario O’Hara’s “Tatlong Ina, Isang Anak” and “Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos”, Peque Gallaga’s “Oro, Plata, Mata”, Eddie Romero’s “Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon?”, Chito Roño’s “Dekada 70”, Laurice Guillen’s “Tanging Yaman”, Mike de Leon’s “Kakabakaba Ka Ba?”, Marilou Diaz-Abaya’s “Karnal” and “Moral”, Rory Quintos’ “Anak”, Gil Portes’ “Markova: Comfort Gay”, and Vicente Salumbides’ “Ibong Adarna.The resolution was introduced by 28 lawmakers, led by House Speaker Martin Romualdez and Committee on Creative Industries Chairperson Christopher de Venecia of Pangasinan.A copy of the resolution will be provided to ABS-CBN, while another will be submitted to the National Historical Commission of the Philippines for archiving.
